The Mini Bat House was designed for the one who wants bats but not a lot.
Light weight and easy to install but built to last. All of our Mini 1 chamber
bat houses we sell are built by P&S Country Crafts and are designed to comply
with the BCI standards for construction.
Each one is hand-crafted and customized to be fully compatible with the
region where it is located. Unlike other bat house providers, we paint and
ventilate the bat house for you, making our bat houses ready to mount the day
you receive them.
Construction:
P&S Country Crafts bat houses are constructed from one inch New
Hampshire rough cut pine boards. The NH pine is held together with two inch
deck screws. The joints are sealed with exterior silicone caulk-glue to insure
a water and air tight seal. The chambers are held in place with a 1/2" dado,
eliminating the need for bulky spacers, glue and nails. Each chamber is 3/4"
to 1" wide and offer bats a place to roost while also deterring unwanted
guests. These guests include bees, hornets and squirrels.
All interior chamber boards are constructed using 1/2" thick rough cut
pine, however, in larger bat houses exterior plywood is used for the chambers.
The outside is stained a specific color based on the zone in which it is
located. This allows for climate control such as heat absorption, heat
retaining and sealing the wood against the weather.
The roof is finished with 20 year roof shingles. The shingles help keep
the interior dry while preventing the outside from weathering. Vents are added
only for bat houses that are located in zones 2, 3 and 4. They are used to
help regulate the internal temperature of the house. When ordering, you will
be required to specify which zone the bat house is located in.
Please refer to the bat house zone map for more information.
Although rough cut wood provides enough texture for bats to cling to, we
have taken extra measures to ensure that our bat houses will appeal and be
comfortable for bats. All of our bat houses have netting attached to the
exterior plywood landing to provide bats with a way to attach themselves to
the house. The landing made from 3/4" exterior plywood is used for added
strength and to insure a stable platform for bats to land and take off.
Bat Houses may be put up at anytime during the year, and depending on
the weather bats will not roost in a bat house until late April and will not
leave until late October.
Each Bat House also comes with a Bat engraving on the front that is
colored matched to your color finish. Also included are mounting instruction
and screws. All bat houses come with a pre-drilled hole for easy mounting.
