Bat populations worldwide are declining due to human misunderstanding; typically having only one offspring per year, their comeback is slow, and with the housing crunch due to their favorite hollow trees, old houses, and barns disappearing, more bats are adapting to bat houses and other bat homes as permanent roosting sites. In order for these small bat houses
and bat boxes to be successful, they need to meet specific criteria: narrow crevices at the bottom for an entrance, screened or rough surfaces to be held onto, and just the right amount of space. The unique bat houses we carry are solidly constructed for warmth, insulation, and durability, so you can be certain when you buy bat houses from us, your buying the right
item.
Your bat house or bat box may be mounted on a pole or building, and should be facing south to receive 6 to 8 hours of sunlight. Bat houses for Eastern NC and other Northern States or Canada purchased from our bat houses & wild bird store should probably be painted black on the outside (with non-toxic latex paint) to absorb plenty of heat. Mounting your bat shelter a minimum of 15 feet above the ground provides a greater chance of attracting bats; the
higher the bat shelter, the more attractive it will be.
